What would that have mattered? (BERTHA: You are not my father when you talk like that.) What do you say? Am I not your father? How do you know that? Who told you that? And who is your father, then? Who? (BERTHA: Not you at any rate.) Still not I? Who, then? Who? You seem to be well informed. Who told you? That I should live to see my child come and tell me to my face that I am not her father! But don't you know that you disgrace your mother when you say that? Don't you know that it is to her shame if it is so?
