Thief Monologue from Night

From Night by Sholom Asch

male · defiant · 53 sec

To-night is the night when the dogs are delivered. Look at her. Look at us. We were locked in, and we have come out. We are all one family—dogs. We wander on the street. Men have shut their doors in our faces. Come, dogs. We will unite to-day. Throw off your chains, and shake yourself as if you were shaking dust from your shoulders. You are men after all. I have known you from childhood. I knew your mother. Drunkard. I don't know what you mean.
